Service Description

This advanced level class is the third step in the AKC Family Dog Program and in Maine Canine Company's Therapy Dog Program. This course emphasizes responsible dog ownership, advanced obedience out in public, and appropriate on leash introductions with people and other dogs in the community and in a therapy setting. This course is an extension from canine good citizen. In this course we mindfully schedule visits in our community to practice our new training skills. These visits include pet friendly stores and restaurants, nursing homes, and children's reading programs. At the end of this six week course owners have the opportunity to certify with their dog as an AKC Community Canine (CGCA: Advanced Canine Good Citizen). The is no age requirement for this class, or for the AKC test. There is also no breed or purebred requirement. This class and certification is eligible for all dogs or every walk of life! Requirements for booking: Each participating dog must complete basic obedience and Canine Good Citizen prior to booking this course. Any dog who has displayed aggression in the past is ineligible for CGC and CGCA certification. All dogs must be vaccinated (Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella) Any dogs showing signs of illness (coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, runny nose, fever, etc.) should not attend class. Please reach out to Maine Canine Company to reschedule if your dog shows any signs of illness listed above.
